While we await the wandering Swallowtails and the return of the Monarchs, we have had a couple visitors that we rarely saw last year. While we were in the garden late one afternoon, a very fast, dark butterfly was suddenly zipping around us, swooping through the garden and around each of us. When finally it landed, we were thrilled to see the Red Admiral opening its beautiful wings on the old wood in the corner of the original garden. When it flew up and around and around, suddenly it went behind Stephanie and .... did not emerge!

I said to Stephanie, "I think it may be on you. Turn around very slowly." And there they were.

After that adventure ended, Stephanie went inside while I watched the Red Admiral some more.  Then I thought I felt something on my shirt. Carefully I raised my camera and took a selfie. My first ever selfie with an Admiral!

The Smith-Boeth Monarch Waystation was conceived by Rick and Stephanie as a place where Monarchs and other butterflies could find nectar, shelter, and a place to lay their eggs.
