NEWS FLASH: And Remus Makes Two!!

   We should have named him "Pokey." On day 17, at 9:50 AM, an hour later than most Monarchs eclose, Remus, a male, finally emerged from his translucent chrysalis! With two Monarchs now born, we are elated. We hope for more in the fall, but the basic mission of the garden has been accomplished, and everything else is a gift. 

     Above, Stephanie helps document the morning. Below, Remus climbs out from the hydrangea bush where he was born. You know it's a male by the two black spots near his abdomen. 

     Without feeding, he flew off about four hours after emergence, as if eager to continue the migration north.
