The Hummingbird Hawk-Moth

The Hummingbird Hawk-Moth really is an insect, although it looks more like a tiny Hummingbird with a proboscis instead of a beak. In its larval stage is one of the big green caterpillars munching on your tomato plants. But with its little bandit eyes it is really quite charming, and its transparent wings beautiful. Forgive the shaky camera work in the video above. Next time we will use a tripod! Below is a clearer view.

The Smith-Boeth Monarch Waystation was conceived by Rick and Stephanie as a place where Monarchs and other butterflies could find nectar, shelter, and a place to lay their eggs.
